hummuna Hummus
“Food is love, love is food, and food is family as well. It brings people together.”
For Sevana Saroyan, cooking came naturally, “I grew up at the apron strings of my grandmother, who was a phenomenal cook. She was an orphan from Turkey who was then brought to Syria.”
“We would have lunch together every Sunday, and my mom and aunts are phenomenal cooks as well, so I got to grow up watching some really talented ladies in the kitchen.” Sevana took those lessons to heart and put them to work when she opened a catering business to serve Boise.
She started making a healthy, gluten-free and vegan hummus for her kids to snack on and decided to add it to the catering menu. The Mediterranean dip became a hit with clients and a hummus business was born.
These days, the whole family helps out. “George puts his marketing skills into it and I get to put [in] my creative cooking skills, and then the kids get involved. So it’s definitely a family affair.”
